The JFK Red Cross grounds flooded with excitement for the first time in almost two years on this past Saturday, June 12, as The Bahamas Red Cross hosted their first ever “Red Hot Summer Grill”. This drive-thru grill out took the shape of a summer festival with the perfect collaboration of partners. Entertainers like Bodine, Funky D, Wendy, Dyson Knight, D-Mac, DJ Godson, Nehemiah Hield and many more took to the stage while the Sigma fraternity manned the grills. Volunteer groups from various organizations like Rotary and the Zeta Sorority were also present.
Once tickets were redeemed, the Red Cross took to neighbouring communities to donate meals to those in need as each purchase secured a meal for one beneficiary.
Deputy Director General Alicia Pinder commented, “We are happy to begin our rebound of fundraising activities since the cancellation of all our legacy events, especially, the annual ball, fair and raffle from last year. It gives us great joy to serve our communities and to entertain them while we raise funds to help feed the needy. By the turnout today, we know that the concept and excitement is catching and residents are all, just like us, waiting for the pandemic to end so we can get back to the events that keep our communities engaged in humanitarian work”.
The Bahamas Red Cross plans to continue these events throughout the summer months. Do your part to help the community and support! Photos of the day can be found here.
